Hello + Welcome!

You just booked a maternity session with Brittany Minor Photography, + you can't wait ( and me either!!) But now that you are officially booked with me, you might be wondering what's next? I created a maternity session guide for clients that detail the next steps to help you + your family prepare for your session! In this article, I'll explain how maternity sessions work, + all the things you can expect!

When is the best time to book a maternity session?

Most clients schedule their maternity session around 26-36 weeks. If you are having multiples or having any complications through your pregnancy, we can make the necessary adjustments to this time frame.

Location + Timing?

Once you are officially booked with me, we will determine the location for your session! I am always location scouting, and can recommend a few locations, based on the current season. I am also open to request's on locations as well! ( I am always up for a new adventure!) Locations over 50 miles from Brookings will incur an additional mileage rate. I book my session's either at sunrise or golden hour. Shooting at these specific times gives that gorgeous, dreamy light that you see so often in my images. Please consider that golden hour in the summer is quite a bit later than golden hour in the fall or winter, so planning kiddo's naps accordingly will help. You may want to also consider a sunrise session.

What's included with my maternity session?

You will receive unlimited images in a digital download gallery along with the print release, as well as a $50 credit to use towards a newborn lifestyle session. You can also add a short film to your session as well for an additional cost.

What type of images can I expect?

My photography style consists of capturing both timeless portraits, as well as genuine, organic, candid moments. I will help guide you through on how to hold your belly, + where to look. I typically start off with some posed shots, and work into the more candid moments, ( and this is when the adventure starts! ) Think of it as interactions you would normally have together, like cuddling, giving a kiss on the cheek, or laughing from a funny joke. Candid moments produce genuine, organic images that are just so special. You can look at the camera, or you don't have to! These will be digital, retouched images like you see in my portfolio. If you have any special props you would like to use, such as an ultrasound photo, letterboard, baby shoes, etc., bring it along and we will most definitely incorporate it!

How long is a maternity session?

My maternity session package is 60 minutes. That gives us enough time for whole family images, mom and dad, mom with older children, and mom!

What will we wear?

This is probably the first question you think of right after you are officially booked for a session! When you start to think of styling, I suggest starting with one person first! You can then choose a color scheme, and introduce any textures and layers. Another great thing to think about is the colors in your home ( of course you will want to display these images on the walls! ) Make sure the colors you choose compliment each other well. Try to avoid big logos + matching patterns. Outfits can make or break images! As always, I am just an email away if you have any styling questions! I would be happy to help!

I personally love PinkBlush Maternity for maternity outfits! Everything from adorable maternity tops to gorgeous maternity dresses, they will have you covered!

What happens the day of session?

In the days leading up to the session, I send a email reminder of your session date + time as well as directions to the location, and any necessary weather information! I also email out a questionnaire to complete, so I can get to know you a little bit more! Don't hesitate to bring snacks, water, or any favorite toys for your kiddos along with you to your session!

What is your editing process and when can I expect my gallery?

After your session, I upload your images and I take great care in picking out the perfect moments. I select a few and edit your preview images, + those are typically posted within 2 days of your session. I do not limit images in my sessions because my favorite images may not be your favorite. My turnaround time is 7 days. You will then receive your retouched images in a digital download gallery, where you can share, download, and print!

Last but not least, let's have fun with your session!
